Naval Hospital Seismic Evaluations
MCAGCC Twentynine Palms Twentynine Palms, CA
A seismic response program was created at the Naval Hospital Twenty-nine Palms (NHTP) on the 596,000-acre premier live-fire base, Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC) of the southern Mojave Desert in close vicinity of the West Mountain Bullion Fault. The seismic program includes a detailed seismic evaluation and the development of a Rapid Evaluation & Assessment Program (REAP). Each year, approximately one-third of the Fleet Marine Force and Marine Reserve units, some 50,000 marines, participate in the center’s training exercise program. The state-of-the-art hospital, designed and constructed in the early 1990’s and commissioned in 1993, has a combined floor area of approximately 160,000 GSF. The population assigned to MCAGCC is approximately 9,700. Including the surrounding Twenty-nine Palms community, a combined population is estimated to be 25,000, which in a disaster situation, the hospital could be called upon to serve.
